Forest District Bílovice nad Svitavou

One of three TFE forest districts is the Forest District Bílovice nad Svitavou with a seat in the Hunting Lodge of Sly Little Vixen in Bílovice. Work contents of this classical forest organization unit in the management of university land property consist in special-purpose activities for the MZLU Faculty of Forestry and Wood Technology, and in economic actual which includes silvicultural and logging operations governed by FMP valid for 2003-2012, forest protection, agriculture, execution of shooting rights, etc.

Forest District Bílovice nad Svitavou farms on 3,055 ha of forests divided into 4 forest ranges, directly controlling all activities of the Rajhrad Pheasantry and Sokolnice Game Enclosure. The forests are in an immediate vicinity of the northern limits of Brno and this is why the recreational and aesthetic functions of the forest are very important, amplified by the existence of many memorials and fountains of the Forest Pantheon. In this very valuable natural environment there are 9 small-scale protected landscape areas (of these 2 are national nature reserves) whose origin is in the pattern of nature reserves established at TFE by Prof. Alois Zlatník. Arboretum in Řícmanice is open to public for visits and study.

Parent rock is mainly limestone with the mainly mixed forest stands represented by all autochthonous broadleaved and conifer species, excellent results are achieved in the beech shelterwood system. Annual assignment represents logging at 13,000 m3, forestation at 24 ha and tending measures at 41 ha and 186 ha of cleaning and thinning, respectively.
