Forest District Vranov is one of three forest districts of MZLU Brno Training Forest Enterprise Masaryk Forest Křtiny. It has a seat in Brno-Útěchov. This classical forest organization unit is assigned mainly with special-purpose activities for the MZLU Faculty of Forestry and Wood Technology, and economic actual which includes silvicultural and logging operations governed by FMP valid for 2003-2012, forest protection, agriculture, execution of shooting rights, etc.
Forest District Vranov operates 3,345 ha of forests and divides into 4 forest ranges. The forest stands are situated in an immediate vicinity of the Moravian metropolis of Brno, and this is why recreational and aesthetic functions of the forests –amplified by the existence of Forest Pantheon- are very important. Natural environment is very valuable; there are 3 nature reserves in the cadaster, whose origin dwells in the pattern of nature reserves established at TFE Křtiny by Prof. Alois Zlatník.
Parent rock is granodiorite. Local forest stands are composed mainly of oak, beech, spruce and pine. Annual cut is 19,000 m3, forestation is 25 hectares and tending measures include 50 ha of cleaning and 150 ha of thinning.
